Introduction to the camera" workshop
La Comète is launching a new series of workshops, this time dedicated to the camera and color printing. The camera is a large-format camera that generally holds film plates, glass plates or silver paper (calotype).
The view camera is a large-format camera that generally holds film plates, glass plates or silver paper (calotype). By "large format" we mean films with dimensions ranging from 6x9cm to 20x25cm (larger formats are rare).
Using a 4x5inch (10x12cm) travel camera, we'll go through all the steps involved in making photographs. To begin with, you'll learn how to load frames with silver paper in the dark, followed, weather permitting, by black and white portraits taken outdoors (in case of bad weather, the shots will be taken in the studio). You'll familiarize yourself with the various manipulations and settings required for shooting, immersing yourself in the unique world of "slow photography".
Then we'll return to the Quai de la Photo studio to develop the paper negatives using a mobile lab. You'll be able to see the results, and leave with your prints the same day. As an added bonus, this workshop will introduce you to studio photography on color silver paper using the "RA4 reversal" process.
Note This workshop is designed for those wishing to explore the basics of large-format photography. It will not be long enough to cover all the possibilities offered by this tool (such as tilting, off-center, etc.). It is open to all levels, amateur or professional, from 18 years upwards.
Workshop duration: 3 hours
Maximum number of participants: 4
Price per participant: €120
