Weekend wet collodion photography

22 February 5pm - 8pm

FEBRUARY 22: INTRODUCTION TO WET COLLODION

5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

La Comète offers an introduction to wet collodion with Thomas Halkin, a mid-19th-century method of silver plate photography.

Collodion was the first technique to democratize photography, and portraiture in particular. Still a rudimentary technique, it requires continuity between chemical preparation, shooting and developing, which gives it a particular charm today.

The workshop will first cover the history of the practice, as well as the safety aspects of collodion, before the realization of a first image. Thomas Halkin will show you how to handle a view camera and what to do in the lab. He will then pass the baton to participants, who will produce at least one plate under his supervision and a portrait of another participant.

At the end of the workshop, the plates will be scanned, and participants will be able to pick up their plates the following day. Workshops last 3 hours with a break, with a maximum of 4 participants.

Duration: 3 hours

The workshop will not be refunded in the event of cancellation after December 14, 2024.
