Vernissage - Another Mali in another world by Françoise Huguier
VERNISSAGE THURSDAY, MARCH 6, 2025 FROM 6:30 PM
Open to the public
From 6.30pm, come and discover Un autre Mali dans un autre monde by Françoise Huguier.
During the opening, Quai de la Photo presents a live concert by Mama Sissoko and his musicians. A renowned Malian guitarist and composer, he showcases the beauty and diversity of Malian music, fusing Mandingo traditions, jazz and Cuban sounds. Mama Sissoko celebrates the cultural richness of Mali, an approach that echoes that of Françoise Huguier.
Exhibition from March 7 to June 1.
The exhibition highlights some sixty works, offering a unique panorama of photography in Mali, from historic creations to the most contemporary, while exploring the importance of the Bamako Biennale, a key event on the African photography scene.
While emblematic figures such as Malick Sidibé and Seydou Keïta have left their mark on history, Un autre Mali dans un autre monde features a total of 14 photographers and a new generation of contemporary artists such as Amadou Keita, John Kalapo, M.I. Tounkara, Seyba Keita, Kani Sissoko, Adama Bamba, Mamadou Konaté, Mory Bamba, Oumou Traoré, Fatoma Coulibaly and Drissa Diara, who reinvent this heritage through bold approaches and singular perspectives.
Rarely exhibited in France, Malian photographers are given a unique platform to showcase their talent. The exhibition will be enriched by the fascinating accounts of Seydou Camara and Françoise Huguier, who have accompanied the development and dissemination of Malian photography since 1994. One of the highlights will be the presentation of previously unseen photographs by Malick Sidibé, one of Mali's leading photographers.
