KEEP THE KID ALIVE - ARIELLE BOBB-WILLIS
La Comète welcomes Arielle Bobb-Willis for the signing of Keep the Kid Alivethe artist's first monograph published by Aperture, on Friday November 8 from 6pm to 8pm.
In her debut book Keep the Kid Alive, artist Arielle Bobb-Willis, whose work was featured in The New Black Vanguard exhibition, invites us into an imaginative, luminous world filled with dynamic colors, unusual gestures and poses created by the artist herself. Transforming the streets of New Orleans, New York and Los Angeles into lush backdrops for her wonderfully surreal tableaux, Bobb-Willis produces unforgettable images that expand the genres of fashion and fine art photography.
"I love the idea of seeing black people represented in an abstract way," she explains. It's important for me to continue to reject the notion that Black expression is limited or limiting. "
In addition to Bobb-Willis's photographs, the book includes an essay by writer and academic Tiana Reid, an illuminating interview with editor Nicole Acheampong and a series of fourteen conversations with artists, stylists and designers, including the likes of Micaiah Carter, Howardena Pindell, Tschabalala Self and Alex Webb, all of whom talk about the need to preserve their " inner child ".
