Meeting with Guillaume Blanc-Marianne

10 June 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Meet Guillaume Blanc-Marianne to discuss his book Images de la politique, politique des images: Un débat.

In this polemic between Georges Didi-Huberman and Enzo Traverso, "It all started with an image, a single image". Fog reigns supreme over the photograph taken by Gilles Caron in 1969, in the flaming streets of Londonderry at the start of the Northern Irish Civil War. Men in uniform, in the background, face two young men, their arms in the air, tense with effort. What gesture is the photographer showing? Allegiance or disobedience?

The discussion quickly moves beyond the photograph in question. As the authors slide into the political arena and its more or less spectacular, more or less solitary revolts, disagreement deepens and silence eventually sets in. Until a third voice, that of Guillaume Blanc-Marianne, documents the situation of the initial image, redistributing the very terms of the fundamental debate.
